  • Student Health Services Health Promotion is partnering with the Denton County Friends of the Family for Silent Witness from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today on Redbud Lane (rain location: Student Union 2nd floor). The event features a series of silhouettes with a written story highlighting the individual’s experience as a victim of domestic violence. Friends of the Family representatives will be at the event to support participants. Please note that isolated silhouettes in the library parking lot are not associated with this event.
  • Global Connections invites the TWU community to “Border Crossing: History and the Refugee Crisis from the Classroom to the Detention Center,” a guest lecture featuring Nara Milanich, professor of history at Barnard College, Columbia University. The lecture will take place from 4-5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25 in ACT 301, followed by a reception in the Stoddard Hall lobby. The event is free and open to the public.
  • Allison Rogers (Teaching and Learning with Technology) will represent Texas Woman’s University at the 4th Annual SANsational Awards Oct. 23-25 in Portland, Oregon. Sponsored by WCET (the WICHE Cooperative for Educational Technologies) and the WCET State Authorization Network (SAN), the awards recognize outstanding effort by SAN member institutions and organizations in developing a high-quality, comprehensive solution to a challenging state authorization issue. TWU’s award is in the compliance innovations category.
  • Congratulations to Celia Lo (sociology) and TWU alumna Andrea Laurent Simpson. Their paper, “How SES May Figure in Perceptions of Zika Risks and in Preventive Action” received a Sociological Spectrum Award for best paper of the year from the editorial board of the journal Sociological Spectrum.
  • Glen Ray (bursar) was elected president of the Texas Bursars for Universities and Colleges (Texas BUC$) at its annual conference Oct. 7-10 in Corpus Christi.
  • Ling Hwey Jeng (School of Library and Information Studies) gave a keynote speech, “Advocacy, Engagement, and Storytelling,” at the Nebraska Library Association/Nebraska School Librarians Association joint 2018 conference Oct. 4-6 in Lincoln.
