A new nursing scholarship has been created in memory of Ann Elizabeth Lucia, a two-time alumna of Texas Woman's University. Her brother, Greg Lucia, created the Ann E. Lucia, Ph.D. Memorial Scholarship Endowment in Nursing in her honor after Ann passed away in April of this year.
Ann was a dedicated nurse who worked in several pediatrics units including the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in San Francisco, along with numerous hospitals in Houston. After a lengthy career as a nurse, Ann decided to go back to school to attain her master’s degree so that she could teach the next generation of nurses. Ann received her master’s degree from TWU in 1977. She then returned to TWU and received her PhD in Nursing in 1992. She went on to teach at the School of Nursing at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston and was an assistant professor at the College of Nursing at Texas A&M Prairie View University.
Ann had a successful career as a nurse and educator. This scholarship will assist nursing majors at TWU, with a preference given to students living with a physical disability. Texas Woman's University is honored to have Ann’s legacy and love for nursing live on at the university through this endowment.
