Tina L. Gumienny, PhD, presented “Characterizing the genetic and physical interaction of the DBL-1/BMP signaling pathway with BLMP-1/BLIMP1 transcription regulator in Caenorhabditis elegans” as a talk and poster presentation co-authored with TWU Biology PhD graduate M. Farhan Lakdawala, PhD, and collaborator Matt Crook, PhD (Wofford College) at the Aging, Metabolism, Stress, Pathogenesis and Small RNAs in C. elegans meeting on June 21 at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Madison, Wisc. They also presented the same presentation at the TGF-β Superfamily FASEB Summer Research Conference, July 22–25, at The Niagara Falls Convention Center, Niagara Falls, New York.
English, Rhetoric & Spanish
Angela Rodriguez Mooney, PhD, was an invited speaker at the International Congress of the Graduate Program in Language and Literature at Unesp, held in São José do Rio Preto, Brazil, from August 28-30. “Nem monstras, nem santas: Deslocamentos narrativos de personagens travestis e trans* na literatura e no cinema brasileiro.”
Angela Rodriguez Mooney, PhD, presented her research titled "Urban (Re)territorialization and Marginalized Identities: An Analysis of Se eu fosse puta by Amara Moira" at the XIV International Association of Lusitanists Conference (AIL) on July 25 at the University of Porto in Porto, Portugal.
Angela Rodriguez Mooney, PhD, presented “Nova epistemologia sobre corpos dissidentes no cinema brasileiro” at the 106th American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese Conference (AATSP 2025) on July 1 in Portland, Ore.
Angela Rodriguez Mooney, PhD, organized the panel titled "Gender and Sexuality in Contemporary Latin American Film" and presented her paper "Trans Poetics and Defiance in Linn da Quebrada's 'Bixa Travesty'" at the LASA2024 Congress. The congress took place from June 12 to 15 in Bogota, Colombia.
Human Resources / TWU Libraries
Austin Hammond (Human Resources) and Ginger Garza (TWU Libraries) presented at the 2024 Lifelong Information Literacy Conference on Friday, July 26. They presented on their training workshop available to TWU employees called "Think like a Librarian: Information Literacy for Employees" on how principles of information literacy are both important and beneficial to university staff.

Shelia Hyde, PhD, chaired a panel on “Challenges and Possible Solutions Related to Student Engagement in Online Learning Environments” at the International Society of Marketing Fall Educators’ Conference Sept. 11-13 in San Antonio, Texas.
Lee Brown, PhD, did a presentation on “Recent Advancements in AI: An Overview of Significant Developments in AI over the Past Year” at the International Society of Marketing Fall Educators’ Conference Sept. 11-13 in San Antonio, Texas.
Rama Yelkur, DBA, did a presentation on “Teaching Versus Learning from an AACSB Accreditation Perspective” at the International Society of Marketing Fall Educators’ Conference Sept. 11-13 in San Antonio, Texas.
David Rylander, PhD, chaired a panel on “Cross-disciplinary Teaching: Opportunities and Challenges” at the International Society of Marketing Fall Educators’ Conference Sept. 11-13 in San Antonio, Texas.
Mathematics
Shawnda Smith, PhD, Brandi Falley, PhD, and Lorianne Gillander presented at the International Congress on Mathematics Education in Sydney, Australia in July. They presented two presentations: one on the work in our corequisite Elementary Statistics courses and the other on use of rubrics in Elementary Statistics. Smith also presented two additional talks featuring her work in Productive Struggle in Mathematics with Pre-Service Elementary Teachers.
Nursing
Mikyoung Lee, PhD, presented an invited talk titled “Data Literacy and Data Science Literacy for Nurses: State of the Art Literature Review” at the Nursing Knowledge Big Data Initiative: Data Science and Clinical Analytics Workgroup Webinar on Sep 3, 2024.
Mikyoung Lee, PhD, presented an invited speech entitled “Academic Career Milestones for Junior Faculty” at the Global Korean Nursing Foundation Webinar Series 2 on Aug 22, 2024.
Mikyoung Lee, PhD, presented the results of a project with a nursing data analytics team, titled “Data Literacy and Data Science Literacy For Nurses: State Of The Art Literature Review” at the international conference, Nursing Informatics 2024, in Manchester, UK on Jul 30, 2024.
Jeniffer Dolinta, PhD, presented "My Invisible Backpack: The Journey and Experiences of Female Hispanic Nurse Leaders" on July 31, 2024 as a plenary session at the Latino Leadership Insitute for the National Association of Hispanic Nurses.
Occupational Therapy
Linda Barnett, OTD, and Alicia Lohmann, OTD, presented “Cultural Competence During Fieldwork in Occupational Therapy Students” at the Texas Society for the Advancement of Health Professions (TSAHP) conference in San Antonio, Texas on Sept. 20.
Linda Barnett, OTD, and second-year occupational therapy doctorate student, Maleia Hardy presented at a regional leadership training conference addressing sensory needs in faith communities. Children and youth leaders were given strategies on ways to create sensory spaces in their churches and how to communicate concerns with caregivers and leaders that may have children who experience sensory processing difficulties.
Linda Barnett, OTD, presented a training workshop at Texas College in Tyler, Texas, to faculty and administrators. The workshop focused on equipping leaders with strategies on the relevance of sensory spaces for college students needing opportunities for self-regulation.
Hope McCarroll, OTD, and Wanda Aurini, third-year occupational therapy doctorate student, presented a teacher in-service on July 17 on trauma-informed care in the preschool setting. Teachers were given strategies on ways to set up their classrooms and how to have conversations with children in their classrooms that may have experienced trauma.
Heather Roberts, PhD, presented, "GO Move: A Mobile Health Technology Aimed to Provide Information on Goal Setting and Activity Selection to Meet Goals for Youth with Unilateral Cerebral Palsy" with an international team of physicians and occupational therapists from Mexico, Poland and Turkey at the 36th Annual Meeting of the European Academy of Childhood Disability in Bruges, Belgium.
Sociology
Philip Yang, PhD and Kemi Johnson Pratt (PhD student in sociology) presented a paper “Color, Race, and Interactions with the Criminal Justice System beyond the Black-white Binary” at the 74th Annual Meeting of the Society for the Study of Social Problems in Montréal, Canada, on Aug. 9-11.

Gabby Pringle-Onwunaka co-presented a session with colleague Dr. Juan Gallardo from Tarleton State University titled, “EmpowerED Alliances: Student Mentor Conference for Financial Excellence” at the annual Summit of the Higher Education Financial Wellness Alliance (HEFWA) held July 14-17 at the University of Pittsburgh.
