NOTE: THE REGISTRATION DEADLINE HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO NOON, MONDAY, OCT. 28.
Do you have a surefire winning entry for the annual SECC Chili Cook-Off, Dessert Bake-Off & Basket Auction? Time is running out! The deadline to register is Thursday, Oct. 24, for each contest.
Categories for the Chili Cook-Off are “Hottest,” “Best Overall,” “Best Vegetarian/Vegan” and “Most Exotic.” If your chili fits into one of those categories, compete against other cooks to see whose really is the best! A panel of judges will declare the winner based on appearance, taste and creativity. The entry fee is $5 per recipe.
Who doesn’t love dessert? Tempt their tastebuds in the Dessert Bake-Off! Categories are “Cake-ulent,” which includes cakes or cupcakes; “Pie-tastic” (baked fruit or custard pies); “Cookie/Bar-licious” (baked cookies and/or dessert bars such as brownies); and “Out of the Oven,” which is any baked dessert that doesn’t fit into the other listed categories. Breads, muffins, pastries and baked breakfast foods are not eligible for entry. The entry fee is $5 per recipe.
If your creativity doesn’t fall into the culinary category, the Basket Building Challenge may be for you! Entries may be large or small and may consist of any socially acceptable theme; however, alcohol may not be physically present in the basket, and nothing in the basket should require heating or refrigeration. There’s no entry fee. Baskets will be auctioned to the highest bidder.
Even if you don’t take part in the contests, you can partake of others’ culinary and creative efforts 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 29 in the Kitty Magee Arena. Sample some chili and baked desserts while bidding on baskets. Admission is $3 for chili or dessert only, or $5 for chili and pie. Cash, check or credit card will be accepted.
All proceeds benefit TWU SECC.
