On Wednesday, Sept, 25, the Dallas Business Journal honored recipients of the Most Admired CEO awards, including TWU alumna Merrilee Kick, CEO and Founder of Carrollton-based BuzzBallz/Southern Champion. Kick received her MBA from Texas Woman’s University and used the idea of creating an unbreakable poolside cocktail ball from her MBA capstone project to launch her company. Today, Kick’s company has annual revenues of more than $50 million, employs 100 people, and is the only woman-owned winery/distillery in the U.S.
The 18 CEOs selected for Most Admired CEO work in a large variety of industries and were honored for “impressive stewardship of their companies, specifically in cultivating an inclusive, collaborative culture,” according to the magazine.
Giving back is another important part of Kick’s company culture, and she has shown her philanthropic side with gifts to the TWU College of Business Annual Fund, the University of Montana, scholarships to her school district in Helena, Montana, and the science institute her parents founded. Merrilee Kick is a TWU alumna who is making her mark on the world forging new paths for others to follow.
