Experiential learning thrives online

College of Business graduate students recently served on winning teams in an experiential learning exercise with students across the globe. Students in online project management and strategic information studies classes led by Management Information Systems Professor Mahesh Raisinghani, PhD, took part in X-Culture, a virtual exercise meant to create international collaboration in the classroom.

Raisinghani first learned of X-Culture at the Association of International Business conference where he served as a mentor for an X-Culture competition for Louis Vuitton. “The team I mentored won the first place in the competition that was judged by Louis Vuitton executives,” says Raisinghani.

This experience inspired him to bring the projects to Texas Woman’s classrooms. Throughout the project, TWU students worked in global virtual teams with international companies, including a tele-doctor platform in Italy, Ultraspecialisti; a time-as-currency platform in Brazil, Beliive; and an extreme sports agency in Italy, Adventure Addicted.

Each team created business or marketing plans for each company to expand into a new market. In the end, five TWU students were on winning teams alongside students from institutions in the United States, Italy and Croatia.

Raisinghani plans to expand the X-Culture project to his e-business management graduate course students this fall.
