  • The Houston Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Office of Research will be hosting a workshop from 12-2pm, Tuesday, Oct. 9 in IHSH 3121. This first-of-its-kind workshop will feature discussions on the general process for submitting an IRB application, training requirements and an overview of IRB review process. Any remaining time will be used to answer questions you might have about the process or your own IRB study. The workshop is open to all faculty, students or staff who are interested in research involving human subjects. Faculty, please encourage any students planning to conduct human subjects research to attend. If you have questions, contact Madhura Maiya (research).
  • Rupal Patel (physical therapy) was a presenter at the Women in PT Summit Sept. 21-22 at John Jay College in New York City. Patel led a workshop on Diversity, Inclusion and Equity in PT Practice with a co-presenter. 
  • Nina Fredland (nursing) was awarded the 2018 Excellence in Education Award by the Nursing Network on Violence Against Women International (NNVAWI) for her work and research on “Youth Exposed to Intimate Partner Violence and Bullying” which she presented at the conference held Sept. 26-28 in Ontario, Canada.
  • Anita Hufft (nursing) will be on the debate panel as the Texas Medical Center Health Policy Institute presents “The Great Health Care Debate” from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25 at Third Coast Restaurant. The event will feature Hufft and other leading experts from across TMC who will discuss universal health care, the role of government assistance programs and ways to reduce health care costs, among other hot-button issues. The event is open to the public, but you must be registered to attend.
